🦙 Meet Meta’s New LLM: Llama 3
Last week, Meta (the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and Whatsapp) announced and released a major upgraded its open-source AI language model - LLaMa 3 (see what I did there - LLM?). So when you’re interacting with Llama 3, technically you’re talking to a llama… This powerful new model comes with improved accuracy, reasoning capabilities, and a broader knowledge base than Llama 2 and is more accessible as well. The release comes in two sizes, allowing developers to choose between a smaller, faster model and a more comprehensive one. If you’re interested, you can read more about it here. But, here's what you need to know:
Key Takeaways:
You can now access Meta AI’s Llama 3 in Facebook Messenger, Instagram, and Whatsapp.
Llama 3 is open source and freely available for anyone to use and study, making it a great resource for researchers and developers.
When compared to other open-source LLMs like ChatGPT 3.5, Claude, and Mistral, Llama 3 showed exceptional performance in real-world instruction and it’s ability to follow and complete tasks.
By pushing this feature to their apps, they are changing the game when it comes to making AI accessible to all.
You can try out Llama 3 at meta.ai!
Why it's important:
Llama 3 represents Meta's strategy to differentiate itself in the generative AI space by making it more accessible through its applications in over a dozen different countries. With just under 4 billion active users across all of its platforms, Meta is truly setting a new standard with making AI accessible to everyone.
⚡️ ChatGPT is Getting Some Upgrades
ChatGPT just announced a major update to it’s GPT-4 model to the GPT-4 Turbo model. This improved version offers faster responses, better accuracy, and an overall smoother conversational experience. OpenAI claims that GPT-4 Turbo is better at understanding complex instructions and can follow through with them to completion. Previous models have had issues being able to follow all the tasks assigned, but this improvement is making it a valuable tool for a wider range of tasks.
Key improvements:
The Turbo model has now also been updated to expand its knowledge to December 2023 (previously knowledge went to April 2023 - which still puts it behind Gemini and Perplexity as far as live-data goes).
GPT-4 Turbo now excels in logical thinking and problem-solving unlike previous models.
With these improvements comes more accurate responses across the board, so you can expect more comprehensive and informative answers.
ChatGPT-5 is also expected to be released sometime later in 2024 and will be “material better” than GPT-4.
Why it's important:
This update will help enhance productivity, streamline tasks, and research with more efficient AI assistance as well as an overall better experience for the end user. This is a great update, but I’m already ready for GPT-5!
👨‍💻 PROMPT OF THE DAY:
"I want you to act as my personal coach in the field of [desired field/topic]. Take on the personality of [insert name], a well-known and respected expert in this area. Channel their knowledge, approach, and communication style. Help me identify goals, strategize to reach them, and overcome any obstacles that may arise along the way."
🎵 Spotify Testing New AI Feature
Do you ever want to listen to something but you aren’t really sure what you want to listen to? Spotify is aiming to fix this with a new AI Playlist feature that will change how you listen to and create playlists. Simply describe (prompt) how you’re feeling or a theme that you want, and the AI will generate a custom playlist tailored to your preferences! Whether you're in a “heads down need to focus” mode or are looking for something more high-energy for a workout, the AI feature will create the perfect playlist to match your mood and activity.
Key features:
You’ll have the ability to fine-tune your AI-generated playlists by providing additional details or requesting changes (look at Spotify teaching people to prompt 👏).
This will allow for a more personalized experience by being able to generate unique playlists that truly capture your desired mood.
Gone are the day’s of having to think of/find the perfect song to get you in the mood to accomplish your task. No more endless browsing – just tell the AI what you're looking for.
Why it's important:
In February of last year (2023) Spotify rolled out it’s first attempt at AI with the AI DJ (which was a big success)! Now, they are aiming to add more AI features to make your experience of listening to music, books, and podcasts as in tune (pun) with you as possible! Are you looking forward to this feature?
đź“Ś You can Hear an AI Pin Drop
This is probably one of the hottest topics right now in the AI/tech world. Humane's AI Pin, was released last week and has not lived up to the hype so far. In case you’re unfamiliar, the AI Pin was designed by by two previous Apple execs and was meant to be a wearable device that would laser project information onto the palm of your hand and would replace your smartphone. It can make calls/texts, answer questions, play music, as well as take photos/videos. While the concept is intriguing in theory, the execution has been poorly received. Here's why the concept fell flat:
Key reasons for failure:
In a number of demos, the search results provided by the AI Pin were completely wrong answers to basic questions, showing that the technology was untrustworthy and not ready for real-world use yet.
The laser projection display on the user's palm has been described as very difficult to read especially in sunlight. Additionally, the voice control and gesture-based interactions are also criticized as clunky and inaccessible.
Another point of concern has been the pricing. The AI Pin retail price starts at $699 and requires an additional a $24/month subscription fee that includes access to the AI, an unlimited wireless service plan, and cloud storage.
Why it's important:
The idea behind the Pin is unique and definitely forward thinking, but considering this is their first product, this will likely be hard to bounce back from. This isn't like an Apple or Google product missing the mark since they have a track record of success. This could potentially put Humane under.
🦾 Boston Dynamics Unveils Atlas 2

Now, I know what you’re thinking. Is the above image really what it looks like? Yes. Yes this is exactly what the new Atlas 2 looks like. Boston Dynamics has unveiled its new humanoid robot that's pushing the boundaries of robotic capabilities. This latest model of Atlas builds upon its previous years (more than 2 decades) of research, showcasing its agility, dexterity, and advanced perception systems. The biggest notable change with Atlas 2 vs its predecessor is that this new model is powered by an electric motor, whereas previous models used hydraulics. Here's a closer look:
Key features:
The new Atlas has an enhanced range of motion, with the ability to bend its legs and hips nearly 360 degrees to rise from a prone position (pretty wild to see in action)
The new Atlas has a more streamlined, humanoid design with longer limbs, a straighter back, and a distinct "head" that can swivel and rotate.
Why it's important:
Compared to other humanoid robots like Telsa’s Optimus and Unitree’s H1 - Atlas 2 exhibits exceptional dexterity and athleticism. Additionally, with the ability to perform complex movements like jumping, running, and maintaining balance, this makes it ideal for tasks that require navigating rough terrains or interacting with objects in changing environments.
